Calling all young space enthusiasts! If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring the cosmos, designing spacecraft, or understanding what it takes to be an astronaut, the New Mexico Rocketeer Academy is your ideal summer destination. This engaging day camp combines fun, education, and real-world space experiences that will spark imagination and kindle a lifelong passion for science and exploration.
Located in Alamogordo, New Mexico’s space region, this unique opportunity gives children a chance to dive into the exciting field of space science while creating memories that will last a lifetime.
The Rocketeer Academy is more than just a typical summer camp—it’s a starting point for young minds ready to reach beyond Earth’s atmosphere through hands-on learning and memorable adventures. Created specifically for students entering grades 3-8, this program strikes the right balance between educational content and enjoyable activities, all while being guided by knowledgeable staff who are passionate about inspiring the next generation of space explorers.
Whether your child is already fascinated by space or just beginning to look upward with curiosity, this camp offers something special for every young rocketeer.
The New Mexico Museum of Space History has designed Rocketeer Academy as an engaging STEM experience that puts kids at the center of space exploration. Throughout the weeklong program, young space enthusiasts will participate in hands-on activities that reflect real-world challenges faced by NASA engineers and scientists.
From constructing their space suits designed to protect against the harsh conditions beyond our atmosphere to building functional model rovers that can navigate simulated planetary terrain, campers will develop critical thinking skills while having a great time. These projects aren’t just enjoyable—they’re practical applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics principles.
What truly sets Rocketeer Academy apart from other summer programs is the exclusive field trip to Spaceport America and Virgin Galactic’s Gateway to Space. This unique opportunity allows campers to step inside actual facilities where commercial spaceflight is becoming a reality. They’ll walk the same grounds as astronauts and space pioneers, gaining unprecedented access to locations that most people only read about.
Alongside building satellites and learning about spacecraft systems, campers will connect classroom concepts with the advanced space industry developing right in their home state. This combination of interesting activities and real-world exposure makes Rocketeer Academy an exceptional educational experience.
Rocketeer Academy offers three convenient weeklong sessions during July, giving families flexibility when planning their summer schedules. Sessions run July 7-11, July 14-18, and July 21-25, allowing parents to choose the timeframe that works best around other summer activities and vacations. Camp hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 AM to 4 PM, with a shorter day on Friday from 9 AM to 12 PM.
This schedule provides the right balance, giving campers ample time for activities and learning while still allowing families to enjoy long summer weekends together. The camp is conveniently located at the New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo, making it accessible for families throughout the region.
The all-inclusive cost of $250 per week represents great value for the experiences offered. This fee covers not just expert instruction and all materials needed for the hands-on projects, but also daily lunch for campers—one less thing for parents to worry about during busy summer mornings.
