The Alamogordo High School girls cross country team won the team title at the Dust Devil Dash on Friday, October 23, 2026, on their home course, with five Tigers finishing in the top 10. Next up is the District 3-5A championship on Saturday, October 31, at Centennial in Las Cruces. If you know one of these runners, now is a great time to cheer them on.

I love a hometown win, and this one came from a whole team running together.

What happened at the Dust Devil Dash?

Alamogordo High School hosted the meet, the last tune-up for area teams before districts. According to 2nd Life Media Alamogordo Town News, the Tiger girls put five runners in the top 10 and took first place as a team.

In cross country, a team's score comes from where its top five runners finish, so a tight pack like this is exactly how teams win.

    Who led the Tigers?

Here are the Alamogordo girls who scored in the top 10, as reported by 2nd Life Media.

Nizhoni Castillo finished 12th and Kyra Schuler 14th, adding depth behind the scoring group. Only about 1 minute and 25 seconds separated the Tigers' first and fifth runners.

How did other local teams do?

It was a good day for area runners all around.

    • Alamogordo boys placed fourth as a team, led by Zachary Swayzee in ninth and Hayden Miller in 14th.
    • Cloudcroft girls placed fifth and boys sixth. Fin Abel led the Bears' boys in 15th, less than half a second behind Miller.
    • Mescalero Apache boys placed ninth.

What is next for the Tigers?

Alamogordo runs at the District 3-5A Championship on Saturday, October 31, 2026. The Alamogordo Public Schools calendar lists the XC district meet at Centennial, and 2nd Life Media reports it is in Las Cruces. Cloudcroft and Mescalero Apache head to their District 3/4-2A Championships in Roswell the same day.

Districts are a big step on the way to the state meet, so a strong pack run that Saturday matters.

Why do wins like this matter to a community?

Small town sports are about more than results. Cross country runners train early mornings and long miles, mostly with nobody watching, and a home course win is a moment their families, coaches and neighbors get to share. If you are new to town, high school events are one of the easiest ways to meet people.
