Holloman Air Force Base has a new Baby Closet where service members can pick up free baby essentials like clothing, strollers and toys, regardless of rank. The 49th Maintenance Operations team cut the ribbon on the 49th MXO Baby Closet on October 9, 2026, and it is in Building 294, Room 119, next to the hangar. Service members can also drop off donations there.

I love this one. Anyone who has had a baby knows how fast the costs add up, and that is doubly true for a young military family who just arrived in a new town.

What is the Holloman Baby Closet?

It is a single place on base where Airmen and their families can get free childcare essentials. According to the 49th Wing Public Affairs story on the ribbon cutting, the goal is to cut out-of-pocket costs for families and support family readiness.

“True readiness begins at home,” said Ashley Wolfe, 49th MXG key support mentor, in the release.

Who can use the Baby Closet?

The Baby Closet is free and available to all service members, and donated items are available to military members in need regardless of rank. The base says there are plans to offer 24-hour access so it works with different shift schedules.

How can I donate to the Baby Closet?

Service members who want to give or receive items can visit the Baby Closet in Building 294. The contact numbers for the organizers are listed at the end of the Holloman news story. If you are in the wider community and want to help but do not have base access, check with someone in the unit before you collect items, so you know what they need most.

Why does this matter for families moving to Holloman?

A PCS move with a baby means giving up a lot of gear, or paying to move it. Knowing there is a free place to find a stroller or a stack of onesies can take some pressure off that first month.

What does this mean if you are moving to Alamogordo?

It is one more sign that Holloman is a base that takes care of its families. If you are PCSing here with little ones, my Holloman AFB relocation guide covers housing, schools and the basics, and my PCSing to Holloman: Your First Week post walks through the first few days. For things to do with kids once you are settled, see my post on free story time and kids programs at the Alamogordo library.
