Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and polls across Otero County are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can vote at any of the county's 16 voting convenience centers, not just the one closest to your house. In Alamogordo, that means the Civic Center, the Tays Special Events Center or the Otero County Fairgrounds.

If you still have a mail ballot sitting on the kitchen counter, now is the time to change plans. The New Mexico Secretary of State asks anyone who has not mailed their ballot by October 27 to return it in person instead.

Can I vote anywhere in Otero County on Election Day?

Yes. Otero County uses voting convenience centers, which the County Clerk's office says are not tied to any one precinct. Every center is connected to the voter system, so you can walk into whichever one is easiest for you that day.

Here is the full list from the Otero County Clerk's 2026 General Election voting convenience center flyer. All of them are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Do I need to bring ID to vote?

Most voters do not. The Secretary of State's Good Questions voter guide says you do not have to show identification to vote in a statewide election. The exception is a voter who registered by mail for the first time in New Mexico and did not include ID with that form.

If you plan to register and vote on the same day, bring a physical photo ID from a government agency, a tribe or pueblo, or a school. It can be expired. If the address on it does not match where you live now, also bring something like a utility bill, bank statement, paycheck or government document dated within the last 90 days.

Where can I drop off my mail ballot?

Your mail ballot has to be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day. You can drop it at any early voting site, at any voting convenience center on November 3, or at one of three 24-hour secured drop boxes listed in the county's 2026 ballot drop box notice:

    • Otero County Clerk's Office, 1104 N. White Sands Blvd., Suite C, Alamogordo
    • Tularosa Public Safety Facility, 609 St. Francis Dr., Tularosa
    • Cloudcroft Council Chambers, 201 Burro Ave., Cloudcroft

A spouse, child, parent, sibling or caregiver can return the ballot for you. The envelope has a space where that person notes their relationship to the voter.

    What is on the ballot?

Your ballot has federal, state, legislative, judicial and county races, plus seven statewide questions. Every Otero County ballot also has one county question this year, about a local economic development gross receipts tax. You can see the exact wording on the county's 2026 General Election super sample ballot.

I explained each statewide question in plain language in New Mexico 2026 Ballot Questions for Otero County Voters. I do not tell anyone how to vote. I just like knowing what is on the page before I walk in.

What does this mean if you just moved here?

If you moved to Otero County this year, you can still register and vote on Election Day at any voting convenience center, as long as you bring the right ID. That also works for updating your address after a move across town.

Military families PCSing to Holloman can often keep voting in their home state, so check that first. My Holloman AFB relocation guide and moving to Alamogordo guide cover the rest of your settling in list.
