Tularosa Intermediate's attendance improvement plan has been approved by the state Public Education Department's Safe and Healthy Schools Bureau, and the school's houses will compete for the best attendance. Tularosa High also topped its 95% attendance goal for one week.

Plenty. The FFA chapter is heading to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. Mr. Buckland's IT and publications class is building a student television network and hopes to have a show running within weeks. The high school's cultural dance group has performed at the middle school, the intermediate school and the Tularosa Senior Citizen Center.
The younger kids are getting some love, too. High school students in the Educators Rising class read to elementary students every month, and middle school leadership students mentor kindergartners and first graders at lunch. This month, elementary students caught being kind can earn “Be Boo-tiful” tickets for Thursday prize drawings. Tularosa Intermediate is also launching a student leadership group called Wildcat ROAR, focused on anti-bullying, conflict resolution and respect.
What community help did the schools receive?
A community member offered to donate a concrete pad and a storage container at the district's baseball and softball complex, after thefts there. The board accepted the gift. Right now, teams haul their equipment back and forth every day to keep it safe, so this is a practical, generous gift for young athletes.
The board also approved an updated agreement with HELP New Mexico Head Start that adds transportation. HELP New Mexico provides after-school supervision, and the district's half-day 3-year-olds will be transported there when their program ends.
