Families in Otero County can sign up for Toys for Tots now through December 1, 2026, and toys will be handed out December 14 to 17 for children up to 12 years old. If you would like to help, there are toy donation boxes all over Alamogordo, plus Cloudcroft, Chaparral and Holloman AFB. Last year the local campaign handed out 2,619 toys to 829 children, which is a whole lot of Christmas mornings.

How do families sign up for Toys for Tots in Otero County?

Registration is open October 1 to December 1 only, on the Otero County Toys for Tots request page. There is a family application, plus a separate application for nonprofit agencies and organizations.

The local coordinator is clear that there are no late sign ups, and children must be registered to receive toys. Toys are for children from newborn to 12 years old.

When and how are toys handed out?

Distribution runs Monday, December 14, through Thursday, December 17, from noon to 6 p.m. only. Your day depends on the last name of the parent who signed up the children.

Can a business or group become a toy drop site?

Yes. Businesses, civic groups, churches and clubs can request a collection box using the “Become a Toy Drop Site” form on the donate page. Drop sites are listed on the local website so the community knows where to bring toys.

It is a lovely way for a small business to bring a little holiday traffic through the door, too.

Who runs Toys for Tots locally?

The Otero County campaign is coordinated by Karl Harig, a retired Marine. You can reach the program at 575-491-6320 or by email at alamogordo.nm@toysfortots.org, and the program also posts updates on its Facebook page, Toys For Tots Of Otero Co. New Mexico.

If you have a question about whether someone collecting toys is part of the program, the coordinator asks that you contact him directly.

What does this mean for families moving to Alamogordo?

This is the kind of town where Marines, firefighters, a credit union, a barber shop and apartment communities all pitch in so local kids have something under the tree. If you are new here or PCSing to Holloman, giving a toy is an easy way to feel part of the community right away.
