What are the best free things to do in November?
A lot of the best stuff this month costs nothing at all:
- The Space Museum, twice. The free Astronomy League meeting on November 5 welcomes beginners, and the free Star Party on November 14 has a planetarium show and telescope viewing.
- The airport open house on November 7, with planes, STEM activities and food trucks, plus a hands-on Moon crater activity from the Space Museum's education team.
- White Sands on Veterans Day. The entrance fee is waived for U.S. residents on November 11.
- Gordo Poetry on November 1 and 15, and the free holiday workshops at Otero ArtSpace on November 14.
- The farmers market every Saturday morning, and window shopping on New York Avenue for Small Business Saturday.
Which November events help a good cause?
November 14 is a big day for giving back. You can bring a new toy for CASA to the game day at the Civic Center, buy a bowl at Bowls of Hope, and finish the night at Love INC's casino murder mystery fundraiser. Later in the month, the Lady of the Mountain Run raises money for NMSU Alamogordo scholarships, and you can drop off Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes at Grace Baptist from November 16 to 23.
What is there to do outdoors in November?
November is a lovely month to be outside here, cool and clear. Book the ranger-led Lake Lucero Tour on November 21 if you can get a spot, or try for the last Moonlight Hike of the year on November 24. Both use timed tickets on Recreation.gov and fill up fast.
