If you are PCSing to Holloman AFB with school-age kids, your children will most likely attend Alamogordo Public Schools (APS). There is no separate base-run school system at Holloman. Holloman Elementary and Holloman Middle School are APS campuses on base, and high schoolers attend Alamogordo High School. You enroll online through APS, then bring a short stack of documents to the school, and the Holloman School Liaison Program is there to help with every step.

This is the third installment of my PCSing to Holloman series. If you are just getting started, read your first week in Alamogordo and on-base vs off-base housing first, since where you live can shape which school your kids attend.

Which schools serve Holloman AFB families?

The APS Military Families page lists the schools that serve most Holloman families: Holloman Elementary and Holloman Middle School on base, and Alamogordo High School in town. If you live off base, your neighborhood decides your school, so check your address with the district before you sign a lease or buy.

Holloman's official base fact sheets also mention nearby districts as options for families who live outside Alamogordo, including Tularosa and Cloudcroft. If you are weighing those towns, my neighborhood guide is a good place to start.

How do I enroll my kids in Alamogordo Public Schools?

APS uses online registration through PowerSchool. According to the district's New to APS online registration manual, you create an account, choose the school year, enter your student and submit. Enrollment is not complete until your documents reach the school.

Military families get one helpful extra. APS lets children of military families pre-register before they arrive, as long as the parent shows proof of residence in the district within 45 days of the published arrival date.

What documents do I need to enroll?

Birth certificate, passport, baptism or adoption certificateOriginal
    Parent photo IDRequired
Current immunization recordThe Interstate Compact gives you 30 days to meet requirements

If your child has an IEP (Individualized Education Program), the manual asks families to call APS Special Education at (575) 812-5970.

What is the Holloman School Liaison Program?

School liaisons are the main base contact for anything related to PreK through 12th grade education. They help with transferring records and credits, registering for classes and finding after school activities. Here is the contact information listed on Military OneSource's Holloman local schools page.

Older base fact sheets list different phone numbers, so I would email or call the number above to confirm before you go in person.

How does the Interstate Compact help military kids?

The Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children is an agreement among all 50 states and the District of Columbia. According to Military OneSource's Interstate Compact page, it lets schools accept hand-carried records until the official ones arrive, gives your child 30 days after enrollment to meet immunization requirements, honors grade and course placement such as Advanced Placement (AP) classes, allows graduation waivers and calls for comparable services under an existing IEP.

APS also has a history of supporting military kids. In 2021, Alamogordo High School, Holloman Middle School and Holloman Elementary earned Purple Star status, a designation for schools that show a strong commitment to military-connected students.

What are the key dates on the 2026 to 2027 APS calendar?

These dates come from the board-approved APS 2026 to 2027 calendar, which notes it is subject to change.

What this means if you are PCSing here

If school is a big part of your housing decision, start with the school, then the house. On base, your kids will likely attend Holloman Elementary and Holloman Middle School. Off base, your address decides your school, so confirm it with APS before you commit to a lease or a purchase. Contact the School Liaison Program as soon as you have orders, and hand-carry copies of your kids' records in case the official ones are slow to arrive. My Holloman AFB relocation page pulls the rest of the moving basics together.
