What's Closed on Veterans Day 2026 in Alamogordo
Published 2 November 2026
Veterans Day is Wednesday, November 11, 2026. In Alamogordo, there is no regular mail delivery, the Federal Reserve is closed so many banks will be too, New Mexico state offices and courts are closed, and Alamogordo Public Schools have the day off. City trash pickup stays on its normal schedule, and White Sands National Park offers free entry for U.S. citizens and residents.
It is a midweek holiday this year, which makes it easy to forget until you are standing at a locked door. Here is the quick list so you can plan your errands.

Is there mail on Veterans Day 2026?
No. The U.S. Postal Service holiday list shows Wednesday, November 11, as Veterans Day, with no mail service. If you are expecting a package, private carriers set their own holiday schedules.
Are banks and state offices open?
The Federal Reserve holiday schedule lists Veterans Day on November 11, and many banks follow it, so check with your own bank and plan deposits around it. New Mexico's 2026 paid holiday schedule lists Veterans' Day as a state holiday, so state government offices are closed that day. The New Mexico Judiciary's 2026 schedule also observes Veterans Day on November 11.
If you were planning a trip for state business, like the driver's license and registration steps in my PCSing to Holloman MVD guide, pick another day that week.
Will my trash be picked up on Veterans Day?
Yes. The City of Alamogordo utilities holiday schedule says residential garbage collection stays on its regular schedule for holidays not on its list, unless the city or Southwest Disposal announces a change. Veterans Day is not on the list. Thanksgiving is, though: Thursday routes move to Wednesday, November 25. Southwest Disposal's number is (575) 434-1109.
What is open or free on Veterans Day?
White Sands National Park is open, and Veterans Day is one of its 2026 fee-free days for U.S. citizens and residents. Regular entry is $25 per private vehicle, so it is a nice day for a walk on the dunes. NMSU Alamogordo also has a Veterans Day celebration at 11 a.m. in its Student Union Building, with free NMSU-A VA swag for active duty and veteran students.
For ways to honor veterans, see my posts on Veterans Day in Alamogordo and the Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 7.
What does this mean for newcomers and homeowners?
If you are in the middle of a move, a closing or a lease signing, a federal holiday can push back paperwork, mail and bank transfers by a day. Build in a little extra time that week. Thanksgiving week is not far behind, and my Thanksgiving meal help page has dates for food pantries and the senior center lunch.
