Published 20 October 2026
Alamogordo Public Schools has several days off coming up before the new year. There is no school on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, or on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11. Fall break and Thanksgiving run Monday, November 23, through Friday, November 27, and winter break runs Monday, December 21, through Friday, January 1, with students back on Tuesday, January 5.
If you are juggling work schedules, child care or a holiday trip, it helps to have the dates in one place. Here they are, straight from the district calendar.

Is there school on Election Day, November 3?
The district calendar lists Tuesday, November 3, as a day with no school for all students and staff. It is the day of the 2026 general election, and polls in Otero County are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., so it is a good day to plan child care or a family trip to the polls.
If you have not voted yet, my guide to early voting in Otero County has the dates, places and Election Day hours.
How long is Thanksgiving break in Alamogordo?
It is a full week. Students are out Monday, November 23, through Friday, November 27, and they go back to class on Monday, November 30. That makes it a nine day stretch counting both weekends.
When does winter break start and end?
Winter break starts Monday, December 21, and runs through Friday, January 1, 2027. Monday, January 4, is a professional day for staff, so students get one more day at home and return on Tuesday, January 5.
The last day of the second nine weeks is Friday, December 18, which is also the last day of class before the break.
Do Holloman Elementary and Holloman Middle School follow this calendar?
Yes. Holloman Elementary and Holloman Middle School are part of Alamogordo Public Schools, so they follow the same district calendar. Tularosa, Cloudcroft and other districts in Otero County set their own calendars, so check with those districts directly if your kids go to school there.
If you are new to the area, my post on PCSing to Holloman: schools and enrollment walks through how to enroll, and my post on free school meals in Alamogordo covers breakfast and lunch.
What do these dates mean if you are moving or house hunting?
Breaks are a popular time for families to make a house hunting trip or to move, because kids are not missing class. If you are coming to Alamogordo with a PCS, the week of Thanksgiving and the two weeks of winter break are natural windows to look at homes, tour neighborhoods and get the kids enrolled before January 5.
Just plan ahead. Moving companies, rentals and lodging get busy around the holidays, and many offices keep shorter hours. My Holloman AFB relocation guide has a checklist to help you plan.
