Holloman Volunteers Will Shovel Snow for Cloudcroft Seniors

    Published 28 October 2026

Illustrated vintage travel poster of a snowy mountain village with pine trees, cabins and freshly shoveled walkways under a pale blue winter sky, with the words Neighbors Helping Neighbors and Cloudcroft

Volunteers from Holloman Air Force Base are once again offering to shovel snow for Cloudcroft residents who need a hand this winter. Elderly residents and others who struggle with snow can sign up at the Cloudcroft Village Office, and the village will screen applicants and give the volunteers a list of homes. The Airmen bring their own equipment and are on call for big storms.

This is exactly the kind of neighbor helping neighbor story I love sharing, and it is a reminder of how close Holloman and our mountain village really are.

Who is running the snow removal program?

The Cloudcroft Reader reported on October 14, 2026 that the volunteers are working under the direction of Staff Sgt. William "Cody" Marquez of Holloman Air Force Base. The Reader describes it as a program the Air Force volunteers are offering again, so it is coming back for another winter.

The volunteers have signed up to be on call for big storms and will use their own equipment and manpower to clear driveways and walkways.

Who can sign up for snow shoveling help?

The program is meant for elderly residents and others who have a hard time clearing snow on their own. You sign up at the village office, and the village screens each request before passing a list of eligible homes to the volunteers. That screening step helps the help go where it is needed most.

Can I volunteer to help shovel too?

Yes. The Reader says volunteers can also sign up at the village office. If you would rather help closer to Alamogordo, my post on ways to volunteer in Alamogordo this fall has more ideas.

What does this mean for people moving to the mountains?

Cloudcroft is a beautiful place to live, but winter up there is real winter. If you are looking at mountain homes, it is smart to think about how you will handle snow on a steep driveway, how far the house is from a plowed road, and whether you have a neighbor or a program like this to lean on. My ski season guide shows how much fun all that snow can be, too.

For military families, stories like this are part of why so many Holloman households feel at home here. My Holloman AFB relocation guide covers the basics of moving to the area.
