In the evening, Otero Arts opens its yearly Members' Exhibition with a First Friday reception from 5 to 7 p.m. at the ArtSpace. What is happening on Saturday, November 7?
Start at the farmers market in the Otero County Fairgrounds parking lot. The New Mexico Farmers' Marketing Association and KZZX list it every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. If you are going late, call market director Jim Money at (575) 430-2081 to check before you go.
The Alamogordo Veterans Day Parade steps off at 10 a.m. sharp on 10th Street, from Cuba Avenue to Maryland Avenue. It is free to watch, so bring a flag and find a spot on the curb early.
Right after, or before if you want to split up the family, head to the airport. The Airport Open House and Veterans Appreciation Day runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 3500 Airport Road, with planes on display, STEM exhibits and food trucks, and admission is free. The Space Museum's event listing says its education team will be there too, with an activity exploring craters on the Moon.
In the afternoon, Otero Arts lists NMSA music workshops at the ArtSpace: keyboard at noon, percussion at 1:30 p.m. and live music at 3 p.m.
What is happening on Sunday, November 8?
Sunday is a nice slow day. The Toy Train Depot in Alameda Park opens at noon, and my Toy Train Depot guide has the ride and museum details.
